Born in Iowa, I have lived in small towns in Kansas almost my entire life, and am constantly surrounded by trees, corn and wheat fields, and lakes.
However, I am someone who has been influenced by the fantastical and nonsensical in the world from the time I was very young. From Walt Disney to Dr. Seuss and later to Dali and Edward Gorey, my tastes were definitely more surreal in nature.
When I was a child, my artist grandmother would give me a paintbrush or pastels-even her very expensive ones. This is what began my love of art, and has helped to keep the act of creating a positive experience for me. As I became older, I eventually started to adopt photography as another creative outlet, and became more interested in learning not only the technical details of how to use cameras, but also the artistic concepts involved. Even though I was very intrigued by photography, I chose to pursue my other loves of painting and sculpture at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. I have worked as an artist and graphic designer for many years now, and I was ready to move on to another medium. I remembered how much I enjoyed photography, and how I could express myself in a new and exciting way, so I have been working in that field as well for several years.
